After I germinate amaryllis seeds and plant them, do I grow them constantly all year round, or do they need a couple month cool down like lillies to continue growing?

Until they are ready to bloom, which will be a few years, I don't believe that you need to worry about dormancy. You are trying to increase the bulb size. The dormant period, which is specific for Amaryllis, is important for triggering flowering. A few people posting on this forum are quite knowledgable about growing Amaryllis from seed. Check some of the older threads to see if some of your questions are answered.

Thanks, I really look forward to getting to know you guys and finding new friends to share my love for
plants. Amaryllis and day lilies have been my big loves but am beginning to check our others like clematis; hostas; Oriental lilies! This site is like a one-stop encyclopedia!

Yes, my screen name is 2 of my big loves in life; my plant love and my 6 yr old granddaughter who just began her love affair with a Susan Amaryllis!

AmaryllisAnnie I love them too. Went on an Amaryllis binge this past winter -- had about 12 of them blooming at different times in my office at work. Have one left to bloom - a Minerva. Then putting them in the garden for the summer. Just started some seeds - a cross (crossed them myself) between Naranja (orange) and Picote (white with a red edge). They are just starting to sprout - after 4-5 weeks. Will take a few years to get a bloom, but I can't wait to see what I get! My other love is roses. I live in a condo so don't have much room, but enough room for some roses!

Just because you live in an apartment does not mean that you can't indulge in having a few dozen of your closest friends competing for your attention. I love it when they are all clamoring for your attention!
