Does anyone know how deep you need to plant Jack in the Pulpit seeds? I have a bunch of seeds starting to sprout which I hadnt planned on so now I need to plant them. Just need to know how deep . This will determine what type of seed containers I plant them in.

Welcome to the Wildflowers forum Heather, I hope you will visit us often, Smiling Smiling

I have never grown Jack in the Pulpit and I don't know how big the seeds are.
But these two links should help. Please let us know how it worked out.

You can cover them with soil 1x to 2x the width of the seed. 1/2 inch should be fine. I also like to throw some "light mulch" on top to retain moisture, such as shredded leaves or pine needles, just covering so that you can't see the soil surface.

Jack in the pulpit will likely need cold stratification (most perennials from non-tropical areas do) and or other treatments. Seeds generally should be planted no more than twice their shortest diameter, except for some seeds that need light to germinate, which are then scattered on the surface. The light-needing seeds are generally very small. Very large seeds can usually be planted about an inch and no more as well. There are always exceptions though. Here's one protocol for seed raising - http://npn.rngr.net/renderNPNP...

Planting them outside in the Fall can work too. But then you need to know what they (as seelings) and the weeds look like to separate them out.

I have had great success with simply washing the berries and broadcasting the seeds. Supposedly the fruit surrounding the seeds inhibits germination. The first ones I planted were from seed I harvested from a wild area next to my property. I also purchased a neglected plant at a local nursery. It only gets to be about 15" tall and has beautiful solid purple dorsal flowers. It is in it's third year now and looking great.
