The main destination were the gardens of Singapore but in general people don't care about orchids except as garden plants and gardens are rare as space is tight. I took around 1500 pictures on our trip which was three weeks cruising and on and off site seeing tours. Myanmar (Burma), Thailand and Malaysia along with Singapore were the destination countries. The Gardens by the Bay in Singapore should be on every plant lover's bucket list as least once in a lifetime. It was awesome there. The Orchid part of the Botanical Garden of Singapore was a bit of a disappointment in that they featured Asian plants and hardly any from the orchid world of Central and South America. I guess this is natural because those are the plants people can recognize and easily grow out in the open. Catts need more shade than nature allows.

Images like this one were all too common.

At a nursery in Thailand orchids were around 2 bucks

Fantastic cruise, sounds like a lot of fun to me.

Except for the agonizing part about the 2 buck orchids that we couldn't buy and bring home . . . Green Grin!

I once snuck something back from Japan pinned to the inside of my stewardess raincoat..silly..bad and would have been catastrophic if I had been caught! I also had a guy in Amsterdam that would put the Agriculture sticker on most anything I bought...except the dinner plate sized cyclamen bulb from Turkey that I had my heart set on...he drew the line at that!

I've been to all of those places and they are all unique in their own way. That was back in my working days so I'm sure they have changed. It sounds like a great trip, Fred.

We had our difficulties on the trip starting with missing our NY-Dubai flight because the air space was filled over JFK. No other flight could get us to Singapore in time to meet the boat even though I had arranged to be there a day in advance. Let me just say that the cruise and local sights were wonderful but I hesitate to ever take another flight anywhere with all the associated hassles and security lines. It's just not worth it.

That has become my wife's and my feeling as well, Fred. Flying used to be fun. That was a long, long time ago. There are many things still on our bucket lists that will probably never get checked off. Most of them are based on flying somewhere.

Same here!
And the Dubai airport is definitely not on my list to visit again. Their luggage handling was unbelievable, as a result they lost pieces (plural) on arrival and departure!! They seem to be in a fog!

That is a nice photo Fred, and your trip sounds like a real long trip, we usually exit through the west coast ( since we are already in the west coast anyways) to reach Southeast Asia faster, but we always lose a day or two days depending on which carrier we use. Hope to see more photos.

I am going home in April usually taking Philippine Airlines they are the only ones flying direct to Manila, but this time will try again another airline China Airlines, I want to connect in Taipei, I love their airport lounges especially the ones themed with orchids and plants plus ticket is less expensive. Smiling
