Has anyone grown these, potted or otherwise? I have been attracted to these before but for some reason I backed off. They remind me of lycoris in appearance and habit. Same family and hardy to my zone.
Brent and Becky are tempting me.

I had to look up what a Nerine is..it does look very nice! I like it! Sorry I have not grown one, but now I think I will try to read more about it

Kabby, I do have some Nerine bulbs in my flower border. They bloom very late in the fall, and sometimes are cut short by early frosts. I do need to move mine, as they are planted behind a clump of Crinum that just gets too big. I just bought some that I've never heard of - Amarine Belladiva. I looked it up and it is a cross between Amaryllis and Belladonna Lily and are not popular here in the US. Also, it is supposed to have the largest blooms of all the Nerines. Both bulbs are marginally hardy here, and require about the same care as Crinums--virtually none after they are planted. We get adequate rainfall here. But I think what I'll going to do this year, is plant them all in pots, so that I can bring the pots indoors to enjoy, when they bloom in the fall. I say go for it. You won't be disappointed. Then we both can compare progress notes and photos.

Late in the fall. If they are like their kinfolks the lycoris, they will sulk the first year. Maybe I will get them to bloom the next yr. I'm going to look around for some el cheapo nerine bulbs first if there is such an animal.

Keep your eyes open and check Lowes and Home Depot when they 1st start selling bulbs, which should be about now. The more exotic ones disappear so fast, that most people never see them. When I bought my Amerine bulbs from Home Depot in Charleston, the cashier told me that they carry them every year, when I told her that I'd never seen them before. Of course, I take her word with a grain of salt, As I don't believe that she knew what she was talking about. She may have just been referring to bulbs in general.

I will have to keep my eyes peeled for them. The cheapest so far online is 8.95 for 3. Maybe Mamajack will offer them in a future co-op or maybe a sale when spring bulb prices are slashed. I scored on the co-op for yellow lycoris last fall. I got them in the ground last week. The mini fridge is empty except for forced bulbs and Mountain Dew. me!

for you. Life keeps getting in the way of my getting my bulbs planted as quickly as I'd like. I'm dying to get some yellow lycoris. I'll keep my eyes opened for those next.

I have grown them here in Zone 5 b in pots. They are quite spectacular. The one I have is N. bowdenii IIRC.

Another interesting oddball is Peruvian Daffodil which does very well for me in pots and winter over in my basement with no problem. I even got a baby bulb last year. This year will be their 3rd or 4th season.
