Is there anyone on the forum who has germinated seed of this plant? I've read conflicting information and only have a few seed to try. Crying

Would you know if the seed are a good candidate for winter sowing? Thank You!

These are grown as an annual here in zone 4a.
It is difficult to find germination information.

So far I have read that they need drier conditions in the dark.
And chilling them in slightly moist medium (not wet) for several weeks might help.

So yes a WS is a good idea. Both the Dr. Deno and the Tom Clothier data bases
recommend chilling for 6 to 8 weeks and then warmth.

I also came across the idea that perhaps a brief soak in potassium nitrate solution might hasten germination.

Also some commercial seed suppliers may "prime" some seeds?

Good luck with these and do let us know when you get germination.

Update: As I really wanted to try this plant this year, I ended up buying primed seed of Verbena rigida 'Santos'. I put seed into a soda bottle, covered with the top, as I usually do for winter sowing but placed it under grow lights inside. The seed have already germinated so I guess for this plant, that is one choice in order to be certain of germination. No action, yet, in the winter sowed jug outside, with the non primed seed but it is still early.

Sowed the primed seed on Feb 15.... Feb 22 showing a few seed germinating Hurray! and by Feb 27, all seed have germinated. Thumbs up

Mine have just been winter sowed so I do not have any germination.
These were NOT primed seeds.
