I got a variegated prickly pear joesphs coat which seemed in good health then I reported it and gave it a drink it dropped off a few little pads is this a sign of over watering it was given more water at the nursery I let it dry out before watering again

I don't have your species, but I have a lot of different Opuntias. Many times when we get big rains, the pads swell so much, and the plant will drop single pads or even huge branches because they get so heavy. To me this is normal. The ones on the ground will start growing right away. I think this is the way nature keeps it all going. You can let your pieces callous for a few days and then plant them for more plants.

Alex, I don't grow Joseph's Coat (Opuntia monacanthos 'Variegata') but I agree with Karen, you can let those fallen pads callous over for about a week or so and then stick them in a well draining potting medium to take root.

I agree also but haven't had any pads fall off of mine. I've snapped a few off to propagate, they do take root easily. Maybe they were knocked a little loose while repotting and that's what caused them to soon fall off?
