Very pretty! Just on a wild thought you could use one like a big umbrella too. Mounting the support in the center. I think my neighbors have one that they are not using now hmmm.

Sue, I love your gazebo. I have been wanting to create one, just have not got around to it yet. My Sister in law has an old dish still up in her yard. I just have to talk her into giving it to me. Lol you did a great job with yours!

Thank you Donna, we sure are pleased with it. This year I finally have a rose going over the top along the front and I have one vine that reached the top in the back, just need to tie them down to train them now.

I've got the poles, the bench, the perfect spot... but where do I get a satellite dish like that for free? I've never seen one that big on anyone's home, just the small "dish" type. So very beautiful Sue... great job!

Find the nearest Freecycle to you and post that you are searching for one. We offered to dismantle it and it was lightweight enough for 2 people to put it into the back of the pickup truck.

Will give it a try, but like I said, I've never seen one on anyone's roof. My neighbor has a "dish", but it's only about 18" diameter. I'll do some research, thanks for the inspiration! Love your gardens!

They don't go on a roof, way too big. they are usually in a backyard.
I live in a small town surrounded by country properties and don't see too many. The one we got was in a large fenced property, couldn't see it from the road. I just asked for a 8-12 foot dish. One person emailed me back and asked if I meant inches. Obviously they didn't know what I was looking for. Green Grin!

The were more popular in Rural Areas where there was no cable and they were popular before the smaller version came out.

Yep, which is why most are no longer in use and why they are happy to have someone come and get rid of it for them!

Yes, out in the sticks like we are, back before the days of Dish & Direct TV, that was the only way country hicks like us could get cable TV. Was one of those big satellite dishes.

I just discovered this thread -- Sue, where were you when I was trying to think of some use for our old "dish" (which has now been history for quite a few years) ?! You've turned a piece of junk into an absolutely gorgeous garden area -- Thumbs up Lovey dubby

Gerry, as far as I know those big satellite dishes were always mounted on a comparably big pole... we were so happy when the cable finally came down our road and we could get rid of the thing. One of our neighbors finally just took his down about a year ago... so I have to think it would still be possible to locate one.

Love your gazebo. My projects usually just look overgrown over the years - I'm a better creator than caretaker! - so I really admire how yours just looks better and better with time.

Gorgeous garden and the gazebo is a lovely idea. The only problem I see is ...... where can I find a satellite dish? I never saw such large dishes here. Cable TV has not been in this country long enough to have gone through such large dishes, only the small ones.

Thank you @LAbegoniac and @Mutisia.
I live in a more country environment now surrounded by large properties, farms and vineyards so they are more readily available but a friend in the city contacted me last week to see if I wanted another one that was on a the roof of a commercial building. (no room for a second one)
I will take an updated picture soon as I now have some long branches of the rose tied across the top front.

Maybe I could pay a visit to one of the large observatories we have in the northern part of the country, but then I guess transporting one of their huge dishes over here would be 'a bit' troublesome Whistling
