Zone 5 - Undisturbed short-story woodland. Moisture-retentive soil with plentiful humus. Plant is growing with a southeastern exposure.

The seed body reminds me of clematis, but I'm unfamiliar with the leaf form.
Vertically climbing habit.
I haven't yet seen the bloom on this plant, (unless this is the bloom);-)

We have another definite winner here!!

I went back and checked to see if the leaves on this plant were opposite each other on the vine....they are!

Clematis virginiana - Virgin's Bower, it is. Hurray!
