Making Stepping Stones

By dave
October 14, 2011

At the Whitinger Farm, we are busy making stepping stones for a walkway between our driveway and the house. It's an ambitious project and we've already made dozens of stones. By popular request, here is the tutorial on how we're making them.

I'm glad you all liked the article - thank you for the compliments. Smiling

Becky, we store them in anything that holds water. I generally use my big rubbermaid trash can which can hold about 20 stones. After that I have a few black plastic troughs and then just miscellaneous little tubs here and there.

One thing, after they are in the water for a bit (couple weeks) they start to get a green film of algae on them. No big deal, don't panic. The algae sprays right off if you do it immediately after removing them from the water.

What a fun project, especially family fun, eh?

Good going. Loved the videos, too, really "hands on teaching".

I hope we next get to see your walkway when it's finished. Sounds like another tutorial there! Laying them out in exactly the "correct" spots!

Great going!

Dave, Loved the videos, but what I was wondering was, How in the world did you keep the children so quiet??
I know they will love remembering making these and seeing them when they grow up too. You made a great tutorial.
We are so proud to be a part of your family....

Shrug! I guess when the camera started rolling they stopped talking out of courtesy. But it's not like they are all constantly talking anyway. Everyone was concentrating on their own stones.

Well, I really enjoy watching them grow and learn.
I remembered when we kids did anything like that we were so chatty.
