Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this forum, but thought maybe I could post some photos of the topiary tortoise I made this summer. I decided to only use stuff I could find in my shed, so it was a bit hit and miss making it, and most of the semps and sedum that I used I already had, but I did buy one or two plants on sale as I was running out of larger ones. The moss that I used to stuff the tortoise came from my friend's lawn (she was happy to get rid of it), and that brought with it some grass that has grown in and filled up some spaces. Here are some photos that show it from start to finish (the two smaller tortoises in the last two photos are Doris and Dolly, my Horsfield tortoises).
Welcome Nina, we are so glad you found your way to us. And thank you so much for posting the wonderful tortoise photos (both topiary and live).
What a wonderful way to stuff a topiary, I never would have thought of that. Here in the PNW I could find lots of moss.
I see one of your little tortoise is helping you redecorate the topiary. : )

Nina, you put me to shame - you made that from scratch! Here I am pretty pleased with myself just planting up the already made up forms... I'll have to pull up my socks to keep up with this thread, I can see that!
I am amazed at how quickly it is filling in Jacki. By this fall it will be mostly filled in for the long winter sleep. Come next spring it will be a sight to behold.

Now Jacki, that is fabulous. Did you put the pantyhose filled with soil in the middle of them? Oh yes, I NEED to go get myself 2 of those round wire planters. List of to do's for tomorrow.
I was thinking about the ball. So you get a stryfoam ball drop it into the bottom of the nylon and twist it then double back the nylon and fill in dirt around the ball. Then put it in the frame and stuff moss and plants in. I think that would be a pretty easy way to plant one of those spheres. Yep I got to get me one of those.
Well I am thinking I need to get me 3 of those. I could see a good size pot with a pole and three of those balls each one smaller than the next. stacked up on the pole like a formal topiary. Guess I better get busy grown semps.

Be still my heart. Neil what a wonderful photo. And just look at the cactus blooms.
Thank you so much Neil. Have any idea when Hampton Court Palace Flower Show part 2 will be ready? I am waiting in anticipation for it to be published. : )
