Tabby, she only has a few semps, probably doesn't even know the names of them. All of them she planted in the front are gone due to varmints. She has a few in her tiny back yard area that they haven't found. : ) She has a condo in Englewood.
Love your tabby cats.

I absolutely love the Styrofoam planters. I just so happen to have some thick styro that came with my air conditioner. And to think, I almost threw it away 2 days ago. And here I thought I had finished my projects. Rolling on the floor laughing

valleylynn said:Taby how about starting a new thread here in the Container Planting Forum. Maybe titled 'Making a Styrofoam Trough'.
You can put it all in the first post, that way no one will post comments until you have it all entered. You can even go back and edit to add more in that first post at any time. Thumbs up

So Tabby, did you ever make a thread showing the steps you do? I've been looking , but I don't see it.

Just how come I never found this thread before??? A couple months ago I found a couple of those large containers in a market's trash. I wanted them for planters. I painted them with water base paint. I never thought about making them look like cement. Thanks for the great idea.

I hope to get a lot of inspiration from these threads. I thought I was being clever to use styrofoam for planting and now I see you are all way ahead of me. Guess I'll have to experiment with other things. I have a long old cast iron sink that I have planted cacti in, not deep enough for other things. Going to look for more styrofoam, I did find some smaller containers that already had holes in the bottom. I haven't decided what to plant in my containers, need more input frfom all of you.

Pegi do you have semps? I can't remember if you posted that information. : )
In your zone 10b the tender succulents would flourish. I'm not sure how the semps would do without a winter rest.
Does any one out there growing semps in zones 9 & 10?

I get lost when it comes to names of plants, but I do have a lot of succulents. I got a large pot of hen & chicks a while back, but haven't decided where I will plant them. I just checked the database and now I'm sure I do need a lot more of them. Hilarious! I should have mentioned the succulents instead of cacti because I do have a lot more of them. I think it is time to put them all together in one container.

Can't wait to see photos of them Pegi. Thumbs up
There are 1,000s of varieties of semps to choose from. From very tiny to very large, fuzzy, smooth or with little tufts at the tip of the leaves. Amazing colors also. : )

Becky there are some really creative and artistic people here. I don't know how they think of these ways to use things. They all amaze me.
Just like in your Garden Art Forum. It truly fascinates me what people create.

Would you test one of my forums to see if it is doing the same thing?

Just went back and read all 5 pages of posts. This is a great forum. When I looked up planting in styrofoam there were other flowers planted in coolers. Now I have to look up if we can glue pieces together without melting the foam.

Tomorrow is my weekly thrift store day and there is a Korean market where I found the styrofoam. Hope I can find some English speaking guys to ask about them. I'm allways looking in dumpsters for something special.
