Wow! Those are really lovely plants!!!! I almost killed mine...so far it is gradually coming along. I underestimated the effects of outdoor cold temperature and too much rain last year. So do you keep them indoors all year round?

Tarev,
I keep most of my sans on the front porch from May to October which is very large and covered. They get the morning sun and I have complete control of how much water they get. If you keep them warm and very low water they tend to overcome anything. Very hard to kill. In the winter I cut back on watering to almost nothing. You could keep them indoors all year if you want. No problems. When you first buy them, their usually in a regular potting soil mix. Sans like fast draining like cactus. If over watered, no big deal, just let it drain out and not collect in the bottom tray.
Thanks, Stush

Huh.... they don't fall under the cacti and succulent category?

They were a favorite to plant under trees when I was in Phoenix. I just killed a couple by letting them get too cold, too. Maybe they're root hardy? Sad

I learned my lesson now, so I am going to grow my snake plant totally indoors Big Grin

Just happy to see it alive, too bad the leaves are now so uneven with some topside wrinkled, it really took a hard beating during that winter season...

I saw a lot of them when I was in Manila, growing crazy like weeds indoors and, even in those heavy moonsoon rains, but with the matching onerous heat afterwards, it just enjoys it there so much...so Snake plant, no cold, sizzling heat a-okay!

Somehow I got carried away with my other succulents that has been surviving in my garden in whatever weather...so this snake plant needs some consideration temperature wise.

Tarev,
Your plant looks like Sansevieria Trifasciata Laurentii. I have some very old ones for years. They are over 50 inches tall now.

This is another houseplant I've always killed when I tried to grow it in a pot. Maybe I should try it outdoors???

Do you get freezing weather? Alan.
Give it well drained soil and it doesn't need to be baby'd, it is usually very tough...

Wow! Those are really tall Snake plants Stush and Charleen! I feel your pain Alan! But try it indoors and in pots like I am doing now...seems to be working better for the plant. My plant would have been as tall as Charleen's had it not dwindled due to that cold weather..plus now that I think of it, I used the wrong pot...I planted it first on a self watering pot, so with the rains coupled by cold weather, bad recipe for this plant rotting away the roots. Now that I have switched it to a properly draining pot, and really gave it a good exposure last summer before bringing it indoors this fall, it has given me new babies.

I have been good in growing different cacti and succulents outdoors and was blindsided by the near failure on this Snake plant. Ah, live and learn! Thanks for all the advice!!!

They're called Mother-in-Law's Tongue here. I've got lots, but all the one species, scattered around the garden.

They flower in winter and produce the most amazing fragrance. It overwhelms the whole property. But the fragrance is only during the night. Much the same as Dracaenas.

Wow, I've never seen a bloom on one before.

Alan, you can do it outside in bright shade. You'd definitely need to water it.

Charleen,
If you noticed on tall sans in my photo, I have them in tomato cages. Works great and lets them look more natural.
Also to all,
I was in my local Wal-Marts only to see all their plants marked down anywhere from 50 cents to $2.50 for a nice size 4 inch pot. Hundreds of cactus and house plants including some very nice sans. the Sans were all black leafed and some with yellow edges. Seems people in my area doesn't appreciate indoor plants. Seems like nobody wants them. Very sad indeed.

They don't appreciate the air they breathe. Plants help clean the air too.
I love my plants...I'll show more when I get them loaded.
Tomatoe cages are great, aren't they????Stush?????
