I'm surprised to hear that Caladiums are so tough. Must be the hot weather that they like.

They go dormant in the dry season when the ground dries right out. Don't come out until the rain soaks through to them. There's another lot at another abandoned homestead near here. That place was abandoned in the late 1950's and the Caladiums are doing really well. They get extra water from roof run off so that makes for a good drenching even when the rain shower is light.

An example of a plant that is in the perfect place for it, it's when we want them to grow in a not so perfect place that we need to do more. I keep moving plants, looking for that perfect place and sometimes I can tell that I've gotten it right and the plants thrive. Unfortunately, where the plant wants to be and where I think it should be are not often the same place.

My sana are apparently happy right now. I have a baby growing in the one pot and the other is getting taller in the other pot.

My K plant is still struggling even after being repotted. I could try some miracle grow cactus potting soil which was just given to me for my B-Day 3/6+ however, I'm not certain if this will be a good option. I guess I should watch and wait unless someone know something I don't about this plant.

Good morning all,

And again,I am back after not staying out of the hospital. But when i was feeling totally better and everything was going good,my daughter went into labor. That was the best 3 days i've spent in a hospital ever.

When we came home & i was checking my plants i couldn't believe how good my sans. looked. It was left outside because i had been taken some plants outside getting them ready for their up coming move. While i was in the hospital with my daughter (who still lives at home) we had days in the 70's to low 80's with nights in the high 40's to 50's,it also rain a couple nights. The pups look just like the parent plant. They grew up while i was gone. Smiling

What kind of potting medium do they like or do the best in.A ~chunky mix~ I have a mix i use in most of my plants made up of aged pine/fir bark, lava pebbles, horticultural charcoal etc... great for drainage & I add peat or potting soil, slow release fertilizer,Whatever the plant needs,I will add some peat to this mix with a lot of plants that like staying moist but not to wet.
Would using this mix with adding some good potting soil work ok for my sans?

I want to Thank everyone for all the info you shared with me.I have read it & I'm going to plant the 2 plants pups attached in a bigger pot.

have a lovely day

Jojoe,
Your sans look exactly like the ones I purchased last year at Wal-marts. I believe they are called Futura Black Gold. They look good with the extra yellow stripes in the leaves.
Your mix sounds great but leave out the peat. Sans don't like the peat part. Holds too much moisture. You want the quick draining mix so that water is never a problem. Your area is great for growing sans outdoors 9 months out of the year. Some leave them out all year but it really tares them up.
Oh and congratulations on the new grandchild. How great that is. Hope all is well with you and your daughter?

Dogpack,
What is your K plant? Also don't be impatient with plants. Don't kill with love. Sit back and enjoy.

Kalancho B????? something I can't remember right now. I barely watered it and it still rotted. It is, what is left of it sitting on top of the soil which is a cactus mix. The stalk has started to produce another small piece which I think may become a leaf. With only about an inch or two left of the original plant, I hope it survives. A friend gave a larger plant of this type to me which has yellow flowers. This plant is doing well. I now understand how little water this plant requires. It has been a very long time since I've had succulents. I'm figuring out that the soil, amount of water, humidity, and many other aspects of the environment have everything to do with how well a plant will survive and thrive.

thank you very much,

I was given advice telling me to separate, not to etc...

I decided i wanted a big pot of sans.so i didn't separate mother from babies just plant as they were in a larger pot. With this being my first time growing this plant,i want to show everyone who had helped me out so much with information on them.Hoping they turned out correctly & not just pretty. Lovey dubby The soil is draining fast but does stay a little damp after watering.

Wish me luck that they continue to do well.

Hi everyone! I love this thread because I love sans, too! I used to have so many diff kinds but I gave most of them away when we moved. I mostly miss my cute little birds nest sans! Sad But I still have my moonlight sans! My very first plant when I moved out of my parents house was a sans and now the thing is sooooo tall! It has way outgrown the pot (which is a vintage ceramic potter that looks like a tulip) as the pot is short and small and the sans would just fall over if it weren't up against the wall. I just hate to move it from the pot as I have pictures of my first place with that snake plant in that pot haha. I always, always wanted to get the twisted sister sans!

Katie,
Sounds simular to me. I have a tall (over 4 foot) Sans. tri~ Laurentii. It was with me when I lived at home with my parents befor 1972. Repoted but only from one busted pot to another same size. This year I just repotted it. And knowing more about it's needs, changed the soil to a fast draining cactus mix. I had garden soil in it befor.
From this; (only one pot)

good morning,

I bought 2 pots of sans the beginning of the year, this spring re-potted them.By the time i got them out of their tiny pots they had off shoots.I just potted plants, pups & all.Now looking at the size of my sans i'm wondering should i take some out and maybe thin this pot. Shrug!
From the top it really looks full but it looks to have room from the side.Doesn't this plant like to be pot bound?
Sorry about the poor quality of the picture,it was a last minute thought last evening but you can make out the plant.Thumb of 2012-07-23/jojoe/7c2569

I would split them up. They don't necessarily like to be potbound.

It all depends on your space requirements for wintering over. That's why I keep mine in same pots.
