Carrots and Evergreens and Winter Celebrations

By Sharon

No doubt wreaths and garlands of red and green are decorating your homes this week. I've been thinking quite seriously of making a carrot wreath for my front door. After all, it's carrots that played an important role in my winter celebrations; isn't that how traditions start?

If I could figure out how to hang it on the front door, I might just make one myself!

I was thinking of using an old bare grapevine wreath to start, attach the carrots with their tips pointed toward the center and go from there. There are always those wreath hangers that fit over the top of the door.

Suction hangers, surely there's something.

Yeah, but here in zone 5, I'd have to "fix" them with something - the greens would get all frozen/thawed/soggy.......

BTW THANKS, really, for that photo. My mind will be all over it all winter, I'm sure.
I just ordered my first "Purple Haze" seeds and you've opened a whole "carrots as art" category in my head!

I'm looking for artificial carrots. Silk, resin, something.

I have one ceramic one.....
Will think of you if I see any realistic ones.

GREEN is my absolute most favorite color, with orange and purple as supporting cast.
That picture rocked me!

It surprised me when I found it, I was thinking I'd just arrange a clump of carrots in a circle, plain orange ones and maybe have to find greenery for the edges. But suddenly there it was! And luckily it was free to use for the article.

But now I really do want a carrot wreath just like that one.

I can make them out of papier mache', but oh boy, that is such a mess. Could make them out of clay, but again, a mess, plus heavy and a long process. I think I'll just look toward buying some that are lightweight.

They SAY the carrots are "leafy", but they're really just stemmy...

There's a place here called Trees and Trends, though originally it was called Silk Tree Factory. Usually they have vegetables, really nice looking ones, but quite expensive. I'm going to look there.

Sometimes I've seen them at Hobby Lobby and Michaels, too. There should be good sales right now at all of them.

Yep, let me know.
Oh, you could never be irritating!! Green Grin!
