...on how to get around ATP? Is there a way to change font size? Everything here is very small font on my computer, but font is normal size on other websites.

Also, the way postings are appearing to me, the most current postings are at the high end page numbers, is there a way to reverse that so I can open page 1 to see the most current postings? Please bear with me, I'm newer here and it would probably take forever for me to find answers to these questions by reading all the different postings.

Thanks for your help, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sandy

Welcome to our happy little family! We're happy to have you join us. Judging by your name, I take it you're a seed person. Be sure to join us on the seed forum.

If you click on your profile tab at the top of the page, you can set site preferences. I don't know about font size though? Mine is the same here as other sites. If you use firefox, you can hold down "control" while scrolling up and down on your mouse wheel to change font size, but I don't know if that works with IE. Maybe Dave can help you with
that.

The site is pretty easy to navigate using the green tabs at the top of the page. From the forums tab you can open a forum and choose to watch it. Then when you open this site, new posts to your watched forum will show up at the top of your page. You can also watch individual threads within a forum.

Have a look around, and feel free to ask questions. We're a friendly bunch.

Welcome to ATP Sandy
The best way to get help for navigating the site is to just ask questions; someone will come along and answer them.

To change font size you can do one of these::
Press the CTRL key and the + key to enlarge - key to reduce
Press the CTRL key and scroll your mouse wheel up or down

The quickest way to get to the current postings on a thread is to click the last page number shown and scroll down or click to jump to end link at the right top of the thread. If you set your preference in your profile to automatically jump to the newest post since you last visited it will take you there as soon as you click on the thread link.

If you click the watch forum or thread on the upper left of a page it will show up on your homepage afterwards until you decide to unwatch it. You can also set your preference in your profile page to watch threads you post to.

The star you see at the bottom right of posts is for marking pages with information you want to keep up with and refer back to. Starred items are saved on your profile page.

The thumbs up next to the star is for showing you like the information given or picture or whatever.

To get back to your home page quickly just click on the ATP link anywhere you see it; Top of page in the banner, on the All Things Plants homepage link at the bottom of threads and at the bottom of every page you visit you can click on All Things Plants link.

The plants database is found at the tab labeled Plants at the top of the page.
The list of articles is found under the articles tab at the top of the page
Blogs are found under the Blogs tab at the top of the page.
To find any of the gardening tips you've missed click the Tips tab at the top of the page
A complete list of Forums is found under the Forums tab at the top of the page
Also at the top are tabs to take you to your profile page and mail page.

Your home page is set up as follows
Any threads you are watching will show up at the top left hand side when there are new postings since you last visited.
Underneath that is the list of Forums you are watching. When a red Yes is showing that means there's new threads in that Forum for you to check out.
Underneath that is three pictures that have been recently added to the database
On the right hand side of your homepage you will see Tip of the Day followed by recently published articles and a random posting from one of the forums.
Below all of that you will find a listing of the most recent threads with new postings.

I hope I haven't confused you but if I did just ask more questions someone else will add to what I've said or clarify the information for you.

I hope you enjoy your visits to ATP

Yes, but you did a much better job than we did Mindy.

Dave and Trish, we really could use HELP area to help new members find their way around. I'll bet Mindy would be good at writing it Smiling

I agree I was thinking that very thing the other day. We need a tutorial for the site navigation & info. like acorns & such.
ALSO I agree Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! I elect Margaret to write it (if she wants to & has time) Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

I agree
Looks to me like all we need to do is copy/paste Margaret's answer (above) to a new page, and add a wee bit about acorns and such... Well done, Margaret! Hurray!

Continued Thanks!

Another question or, suggestion?!

I've been submitting photos for the plant database but it is a pain to have to scroll to the bottom of the page each time I want to do a plant search. It'd be great if the "search plants" would be at the top of the page, it would save time and would encourage me to add more photos since it would save me some time.

Thanks!

I think it would be a nice idea if Dave could add a new tab at the top for "Help" for newbies. Wouldn't that be a good, conspicuous place for "getting started" information?

Sandy, could you rephrase your question? As I read it I don't understand. You don't have to scroll to the bottom of the page to search for plants. So I'm not sure what you're asking.

Instead of scrolling down, you could just click on the "Plants" tab and that will bring up a search line at the top of the page.

About the small font....are you using Internet Explorer for your web surfing? Because I use both Internet Explorer and Firefox, and I find the font to be much smaller on IE. So my All Things Plants tab is on Firefox instead, where everything is larger.

I do not understand why that is. I just know it is.
