You really should write a book Joanne! I would buy it without a second guess. And you have all the photos so you wouldn't even need to hire a photographer!

Your windowbox, in the top left corner of the first pic you posted, has inspired us to plant ours like that! We have a similar size box outside our sliding door and you choices of plants are beautiful!

Heres a picture of our box from 2008, last years was a failure, so this year we are going with your plan.

They're so beautiful.

I generally only use a few containers each year; I never do well with them. I can grow almost anything in the ground but can also kill most anything in a pot.

Thank-you, I will post pictures once it's planted Smiling

I really like how all your plants are so well cordinated, reds with reds, blues with purples and so on. That is the area where I fail the most Sticking tongue out Maybe this will be the year I get things more condinated! What about when you order seeds, do you order what you want and then figure out where it will go later, or do you have a plan and only order things that go with your scheme?

Re: The pic of the fence with the dragonfly tiles. Did you purchase the tiles locally or online? I love them. I collect dragonfly "stuff" and am creating anew dragonfly area in my yard. Meant to ask you about the tiles before and forgot.

Both are from seed. Opera Supreme Pink Morn and Limonchello F1 Hybrid (Italian Petunia, from Thompson & Morgan). Both are free flowering, so no deadheading. Here's a close up of the 2

Great article in the first post of this thread! Thank you.

A strip of simple cotton flannel, like 1" wide, makes a wick that will move more water than cotton string. But you may not need that much water.

When I have a potting mix that needs better aeration and faster drainage, I screen some clean, OK-smelling medium pine bark mulch through a 1/2" screen. Use the bits that DON'T pass through easily to really open up the soil in a big pot.

If you remove what passes through a 1/4" screen - rub hard - what's left may still be coarse enough to lighten potting mix for small pots. I even use it to lighten seed-starting mix in 72-cell trays.

That also makes any potting mix much cheaper, since 2 cubic feet of really high-quality mulch can be bought for $7-8. And the fines are great for lightening outdoor soil.
