Chris, being out of commission is getting me in trouble, I've got WAY TOO MUCH time on my hands and I've found enough ideas to keep me busy for YEARS! Which is why I'm posting them here, figured if I don't have enough time to try everything maybe someone else will! Green Grin!

Amber, just noticed you're fairly new to ATP - Welcome! If you ever get a picture of your springs, I agree with Chris, we'd love to see it! Smiling

Here's a couple of ideas to make signs for the garden. I picked up some of this dimensional paint over a year ago and never really knew what I'd do with it, I just wanted it! Hilarious! This idea for embossed plaques for the garden is pretty cute. Thumbs up http://craftsbyamanda.com/2012...

Think of all the possibilities - print pictures of flowers, etc. to transfer to scrap wood! Thumbs up

Speaking of springs, I'm planning to work on making garden trellises for veggies, climbing roses, clematis, etc. out of old bed springs. I need a number of trellises this year and they are so expensive to buy. Here are some other ideas:

http://www.ehow.com/how_231311...
http://photobucket.com/images/... (upright springs trellis behind sink)

I'm also using old baker's racks as trellises out in the yard. Snagged this one for $5 at a yard sale. I see them fairly frequently and you can't buy a metal trellis for anywhere near that price. I also saved the old storm doors in the photo when we had new ones installed ... more trellis material. Or maybe a vertical garden with those since that's what I had originally planned. Sure wish I knew how to weld!

Not exactly yard "artsy" but yard practical for some of my needs this year.

Blinking Darn you, you have the best luck finding Trash to Treasure! Smiling I've never had any spare time to check out yard sales in the spring because we were always gone every weekend. Since we won't be traveling this year maybe I'll be able to find some great "trash" too! Whistling

Hilarious! Problem is, I can't even lift those old storm doors until I can get the glass out of them. I may have to "gussie them up" and leave them where they are. Maybe put planting pockets in them for a vertical (albeit short) garden.

Of course, you can't always find baker's racks for $5 but a lot of times they are no more than $10-$20. That's still so much cheaper than buying a flimsy metal trellis.

Fortunately, rust is my friend. Whistling Hilarious!

Thanks, Becky. Isn't it amazing what you can stuff into your car when the price is right? Hilarious! I have a small SUV but that baker's rack is no small piece. And I even got the back closed to boot. Where there's a will, there's a way. Green Grin!

I found one at a huge rummage school put on by a local high school, Tee. Mine was $35 (a very heavy iron one) but I love it. It's been inside and out for the past 9 years! Green Grin!

Tee... the bakers rack looks like a potting bench with an attached trellis... nice doors also... you can attach them with wire wrapped around them.. likely to be as strong as welding... if you ran a bit of wood or steel along the edges and wired it to the doors as well.. and that edging material could be stuck down in the ground to keep it from blowing over .. good to remove the glass you're right..

So many uses for baker's racks indoors and out. Very versatile. $35 is a good price. New ones almost always start at over $100 (some assembly required Glare ) and go way up from there.

Good ideas, Gordon. Wire would work. I hadn't thought about that. What do you think about long pieces of rebar to go in the ground? Would that work? Yes, the glass definitely has to go. My goodness it's amazing how heavy a solid glass door can be. Sticking tongue out

Tee, gussy that balers rack up with some colored crystals hanging down, make part of it a potting bench like Gordon suggested. Litterally put pots on it, use the back side for the trellis then the front side to display beautiful potted plants are Artsy stuff. Hang bells from it like making it a large windchime. I picked mine up last year at a garage sale for $20. They are great for all my antique dishes.

Thanks, Robyn, all good ideas. I'm not sure just yet where it is going in the yard, but being that it's painted with white enamel paint, it should remain "white" for quite awhile. But as I said elsewhere, rust is my friend. Hilarious!

On the hunt for others to use as trellises now that yard sale season has arrived ... early Hurray! . I have another black wrought iron rack that I've had for years, but I am using that for plants (imagine that).
