Grow a Pineapple Plant

By rocklady
April 26, 2012

Grow a pineapple plant. Twist the top off a fresh pineapple and remove the lower leaves. Let the bottom part of the pineapple dry out for several weeks. then plant. Be warned that the leaves do have sharp thorns on the ends.

Just updating status of my pineapple rooting. Here is how it looks like:22June2012, outer leaves are really so dried out but the next layer is part green, middle part dry as well:

Have removed the hydroton rocks and gel beads...yey! Hurray! I saw one firm growing root! The other older roots are still brownish in color..but does not look dead to me. But I am just so happy to see that one new white root! So my badly dried up pineapple top is indeed still alive and just really very, very slow to make its new roots. One better than none Big Grin

So that is good enough for me, with summer being here, and luckily today we have an awesome weather, good to repot it now in soil, so it can adjust gradually as the heat ensues further in the season.

So patience, patience in waiting indeed...things I learned, pineapple tops are very resilient, will pout a bit, dry its leaves terribly during rooting in water, but will just take its sweet time to produce its roots.

Mine are doing very well. Only about 30 days just in water. After scabbing over for one day and peeling off lower leaves.

Oh..my old pineapple thread!

Glad your pineapple top is doing good OrlandoBill. Smiling

I should update the photo of my pineapple..well, I did another one in late October 2013 and just rooted it in soil in a container, then overwintered indoors, keeping it in its container and has been outside since Spring this year. It's current photo:
