I think I understand a little about how @Siliolegma/Karen is feeling. When I joined DG in 2006 it was the very first website I'd ever chatted on and I found it so much fun and became "virtual" friends with many members there. When I left DG in late 2009 I was sad because I thought I'd somehow lost all those friends. But then I found cubits.org and I recognized so many names from DG and then I also found ATP where I've re-connected with former friends from both cubits and DG. I still had a paid subscription when I parted ways with DG but due to the sale of the site and changes being made as well as downright nastiness on some of the forums, I just no longer wanted to be involved so I let my membership expire and as I stated earlier, I never looked back. I found many of my friends from DG were also at cubits (which has lots of forums on many different subjects) and then I found a few old friends here on ATP and I have made many new ones along the way as well. This is the place to be for anything and everything garden and plant related!

Karen, the put-downs you perceive on this thread really are not directed towards you or any particular member over at DG but rather more towards DG management and the manner in which that site is being operated. Dave's Garden was created, owned and managed by our Dave Whitinger, owner of All Things Plants. The DG site was his baby from inception until it was sold and then many changes began to happen; most not for the better. Many of us who were long time members at DG were so very happy to hear that Dave and his wife Trish were opening up (so to speak) the All Things Plants website. There's no reason why someone can't be members at both sites ... there are no rules or laws against continuing to visit or re-connect with your friends over at DG and still making new ones here.

All Things Plants is different than DG, in that we are strictly Garden and Plant related, whereas DG has many, many different forums, covering many different subjects. No reason one can't communicate with folks they share non-gardening related hobbies with on those forums on DG or start a thread in the Sandbox Forum here; which as has been stated, is the place to discuss all sorts of things from cooking, to pets ... and even the weather!

As someone mentioned earlier, this thread was started to *vent* about changes being made at the DG site and the frustration by many members because of those changes. If you are not one of the frustrated members at DG than you should consider yourself lucky and continue on ... but just know that you will find friendly and knowledgeable gardeners here on ATP who are always willing to share advice, offer tips and enjoy chatting about the good and bad. You will also find an administration who is always at our beck and call 24/7 and always willing to listen and implement many of our suggestions to make the site better.

I've copied and pasted below the very first post from page 1 of this thread:

~ Whew! there are a lot of upset folks at DG. Another format change with no warning, After the last major change, folks asked if there could be a simple notice at the home page with a link to learn about changes, rather than just logging in and it is fait accompli .

We were told individual notices were not feasible...not what was asked for.

We were told it was Not open for discussion....we understood and just asked for warning.

The info is in the Site Update forum. Very few folks read that forum on a weekly basis, much less daily. That was why it was requested that a link be posted on the home page... Sighing! Not gonna be very nice. ~

If it bothers anyone that others are expressing their feelings about DG (a site that apparently many of them still visit regularly) then in the preference section on your profile page you can select to "Un-watch" this thread.

~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot!
