My 9 year old niece came over today, so I spent the day goofing off with her. I deconstructed an iris bloom and showed her how to hybridize. I also gave her my camera so she could take photos of the irises she liked.
We also went swimming, played frisbee, went on a short hike, wrote some stories and did some other goofy things. At the end of the day, I sent her home with a vase full of bloom stalks of the irises (and some roses) she liked best.
She wants some irises, so when I get a chance I will make an area in her yard where she can grow some.
