I have a Grammatophylum scriptum but I don't remember the variety. I've been growing it for several years now. I put it into a wooden log square box with a little bark and hung it from the roof of the lanai. The roots quickly consumed the container as they came out the bottom and sides and grew upwards. I haven't seen the container in three years. It is about the size of a basketball and very heavy. I mist it with a weak fertilizer solution every day and deep water once a week. It usually puts out multiple spikes of about three feet long, each with 50 flowers or so. That means it can occupy six feet of space so give it lots of room. Here are some pics.
