I find that the newer spiderworts don't spread as much. They look so much like a daylily that I usually leave them in the daylily beds until they bloom just to be sure which one it is.

I have a pot of spiderwort waiting to be planted.

I use pre-emergent so maybe it does not spread as much here due to that.
