Ok. One more time.

One step at a time.

First, click on the Lists tab at the top of your home page.
Next, click on the “Manage your own list” link.
On the right hand side of the screen, you'll see a list of the categories you've created for your own list. If you have a lot of categories, you may have to scroll down; at the end of your list of categories, you'll see a link to “Manage categories.” Click on that.
That will bring up a screen that says “Managing your categories” in bold print. Next to each category is a little icon with a pencil for editing and one with a trash can for deleting. Click on the pencil icon for the first category.
That will bring up a screen for Editing a category, that gives you the option of either editing the category name or changing the privacy setting. Change the setting (using the pull down menu) to “private and only visible to me.”
Then click on the green box “Save your change.”

Now, if you go back to the Lists tab and look at the public view of your list (the “View your list” link), the items in that category should no longer be visible.

It sounds more complicated than it is. But you'll have to do it for each category.
Confidence is that feeling you have right before you do something really stupid.
