Hi Cliff, great photos of S. 'Ashes of Roses'.
Yes, they can look quite different depending on the time of year, soil, sun/shade, water/or lack of. But your photos still show a basic type of semp represented in all your photos, that is consistent with the type of semp Ashes of Roses is. An awesome semp for sure. Smiling

The problem with the photos in the first post of this thread is that they are not even a tectorum type sempervivum (the ones both Chris and I posted). But the one that sandnsea2 posted is the correct type. And yes, it will change color depending on season and conditions. Also water markings are usually seasonal. So at certain times of the year they may show no water markings. And they can look different from a young offset to a mature rosette.
Do you have Mount Usher? It is a beautiful semp. Lovey dubby
