Did your iris look similar to any of these? Reticulata As June and Lin have said there are many Iris which have short blooms and which then go dormant for the rest of the year, reticulata being just one type. There are many very knowledgeable, enthusiastic Iris growers here. Check out the Irises forum and enjoy. Big Grin
