Thank-you ladies. I am still shaking.
Well, here's the scoop that I learned from the local TV news at 6PM….36 condos units were completely destroyed for a total of over 3 million dollars in damages so far. No sprinkler systems in the building making the fire twice as hard to fight for the firemen because of lack of water.. Smoke alarms didn't go off right away. All the residents and tourists who were here for the holiday were saved by a Bearnese Mtn. Dog named 'Oakley' who only arrived at the area last evening with his proud owner to join his parents. As it was 1:30am in the morning, everyone was asleep. Oakley jumped on the bed, and literally sat on his owner's head and started to bark….waking his owner up. When the owner walked into the living room he saw smoking rising up behind the sofa and up the walls. He woke his parents staying immediately. They quickly dressed, and ran out of the building, but not before they knocked on every single unit in the entire complex alerting people to get out quickly. As a result of 'Oakley's' perceptive canine senses, over 100 people's lives were saved. Just a truly amazing and wonderful story. That's why we love our furry friends so very much.
They believe the fire started in a fireplace in one of the condos. The fire chief said in all his years of firefighting he had never seen a fire so large taking down so many buildings. 6 fire companies from all over central VT. came to the aid of the Warren Fire Dept. Bless them all for there tireless dedication under extremely frigid conditions, to get this fire under control.
This is edited because I haven't had any sleep in 36 hrs. No worries, I will sleep soundly tonight.
