Egads--that is a funky problem.
??my guess would be something eating it...but I don't even know what an Indian Pink is so, sorry, no good ideas from me--

Oh Sue--that is too bad and so sad about the dead bird babies and mourning doves!
I did see a pair of doves yesterday, so they do exist around here. They were hanging out on the wires by a place with a big bird feeder and no cats Thumbs up

Lovely Wisteria, Clint and what a great bee Smiling
I planted a 'Blue Moon' last year. It is working on making some leaves right now...I hope it grows up enough to flower, someday.

Re the smell of iris--Yes!!

Clint, I love the fragrance of Irises too. As a child I admired my aunts bed of blue pallidas and light yellow heirlooms, and the blue smelled like grape bubblegum to me, and the yellow smelled lemony. Not sure if the colors suggested that to my mind or not, but they still put me in mind of those scents.

Our house came with some very old irises. My BF loves irises and made me keep all of them... We have a what I call mud-yellow that does smell quite lemony, a dark purple that smells like grape kool-aid, and a washed-out, mud-lavender that smells like grape lemonade. They are not blooming yet except this one by the foundation.

The feral irises are actually my favorite. They smell like fruity-citrus-heaven and they are so delicate.
Here is where they came from

out with the sagebrush in the foothills where I regularly run my dogs. These pics were taken 4-30-14. I have only seen then bloom a few blooms, once, about 4 yrs ago.
A couple of old rhizomes took off in my garden, have to thin them again this year.
They bloom early and like mad--they have blue buds, and open blue-ish, but then fade to near white within hours, these pics were taken 4-26-14

These pics were taken 5-5-14; they took a beating with our stormy weather but still kinda pretty

Here is more flax (taken with the other camera, which has all kinds of trouble with color and focus at least in my hands, but this one's not too bad)
