We are very lucky to have 2 local daylily clubs, but I also travel 150 miles to another club a few times a year. Guest speakers make it worth the drive, and the auctions are really fun. Around here, it's not unusual for auction prices to be higher than list prices. That certainly was the case at Nationals this year! Way out of my price range, but such fun to watch.
A year or so ago, I wanted to drive to another club's meeting because Tim Bell was the speaker and he was bringing plants to auction. I convinced my husband to come along to help me keep my hand down during the auction. After he heard Tim's talk, my husband was sold on daylilies! I ended up buying over half of the plants sold. Those plants have performed incredibly well for me. Linda Bell and Seashells and Lace bloomed and rebloomed all summer long. In fact, Seashells is still in bloom.
Dave Niswonger spoke to our club last week. I have learned so much from that man. He gives great explanations about genetics and colors.
Hurray!
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.
