Has anyone else noticed this - if any of you buy plants from big box stores?

Usually I like to start my plants from seed but last fall and this spring I bought a few plants, mostly from Lowes, that I thought would be good for attracting hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. I planted them in my cottage garden. Soon I noticed the hummingbirds would take a look at the plants but then fly away; same with the bees and no butterflies came. I'm wondering if they found them undesirable because they are possibly hybrids or something worse, like one of those dreadful Neonicotinoids that I've been reading about.

There are many article out there; here's just one about honey bees on corn.

And this site names all the various kinds of Neonicotinoids -
