This may be a dumb question, JB, but did your friend actually look at her most recent Tree-mail to see if she had really read it? Sometimes when I get the red "new system message" icon lit up, my fumble fingers mess things up so it doesn't show anything new when I finally click on it properly.
And I'm with you: we need a "Big Sigh" emoticon!
