My Aechmea gamosepalas continue to attract paper wasps and yellow jackets so I stood out there and sprayed them (dishwashing soap and a drop of Clorox mixed with water). I avoided any bees. I had this super wasp on them, too so I put it on the Insect ID forum. Here's a picture of a bee flying over the super wasp (which had its entire head in the flower, by the way).

And just to tease you with anticipation...my Quesnelia tetsudo are getting ready to bloom.

And I have this little clump of Aechmea whose tag has long since been lost growing on my dad's Canary Island Date Palm. Sadly, his tree has died so it looks like I'm going to have to find a new place to mount my bromeliads. They're small and bloom orange, but this is what they look like inside right now. Cool, huh?

I have another Aechmea getting ready to bloom but I couldn't capture the start of the inflorescence due to poor lighting. I'm not sure what they are because they belong to my neighbor Jim who inherited them from the previous homeowner. So I just call them "Jim's bromeliads" and I know which ones I mean. So look forward to some more blooms soon!
