You are correct, clones are all genetically the same and derived vegetatively (not seed) from one original plant. Seeds introduce variability from two parents. Reputable sellers will indicate if the lilies are a strain.
For example, from The Lily Garden catalog, Summer Palace is described as "...our own strain of lovely, long flowered and tremendously fragrant pink trumpets! The colors vary in intensity but are always truly pink".
