@tcstoehr Tim - I used pink for several years but now can only get white (light gray) I too didn't like it much but now its fine...what you are seeing in these troughs is a mix like you described!
Here is last winter's pic of iced semps that died which is why this year I've been proactive
Makes for interesting pictures but not a good way to grow semps under 2 inches of water Thumbs down
