When you download a picture, it has underneath it, the instruction that it must have the varieties in the picture named. Does that apply to all the categories, even things like landscapes and containers?

Also, sometimes people have hybridized different plants so they aren't named varieties. Are they also ineligible?

Hi Susie, you might find it helpful to look at previous years' entries. Go into the Community menu to Photo Contests, tap on any previous year and scroll all the way down to see all categories and entries.

The categories are self-explanatory — your photos of any plants within each category are acceptable. So if it's a rose, a tree, a bulb, those photos go in those categories. No further ID is required. Adding an identifying caption is optional and if I remember correctly, the captions don't appear until after the results have been announced. Categories like Containers, landscapes, foliage and several others need THOSE elements; plant species is not important. Limit five photos per category.

Hope this helps, and good luck. Thumbs up

@NMMoasis Zoe, thank you for responding.

I do know how it always was before this year, but when I downloaded something, it said below the place to put a name, that items without a variety name are not eligible for winning. I don't ever remember that being there before. That is why the question.
Of coarse my memory isn't as good as it used to be so maybe it was there before and I just don't remember.

Oh. So sorry Susie, I've never seen that before either. That could eliminate a lot of pictures! I looked just now and couldn't find anything that says that, but I'm not actually entering a photo at the moment. Maybe call someone else who might know.
@Calif_Sue do you know?

I just tried it with uploading a rose photo and indeed it does say "Caption: Please enter the name of the variety (or varieties) shown in this photo. Photos without a variety name are not eligible for winning."

Never saw that before. Confused

Thanks Sue. I'm sure a lot of us await clarification!

And again, Susie, my apologies for misunderstanding your valid question.

Same question. I've been limiting the photos I enter to named varieties for now. I could definitely enter a lot more of my non-identified daylilies or irises for example if allowed. I also have a succulent planter photo but would have to try to investigate further what varieties they all are if that is required.

The variety name was required for the previous contest we ran this past summer for Victory Seed Company, and I forgot to remove that from the photo upload area. I have removed that wording from the entry upload form.

As always, the caption is entirely optional, and won't show until after judging is over.
