I think this is our 4th day of rain...I'm not complaining. It's been so bone dry here that I treasure every drop. The temperatures have plummeted...it is only 45 F today. We went from a September that was like August (in the 90sF) to November and seem to have given October a miss.
The rain is tapering off, so I'm hoping to get outside late this afternoon to do a couple of things (move a big log in the stumpery). Tomorrow, if the weather holds, I'm going to need to get some planting holes dug....yesterday I got 4 yellow mums, 2 coreopsis, and 3 cotoneasters at Lowe's on the discount table for ONE DOLLAR EACH. This was too good to pass up... I have had NO LUCK with coreopsis...don't even BEGIN to tell me how wonderfully yours do for you....so I'm going to try one last time. I've had no luck with mums either, but I try almost every year because I enjoy the drama, pain, and recriminations. (Oh just be quiet. I know yours do spectacularly with no care at all and despite being mowed down at least twice a summer.)
I finally took the step of calling on a neighborhood kid to help me with a small project and then the rain and cold came on and we decided it wasn't worth trying. Hopefully, he'll find time to squeeze me into his busy schedule on Tuesday or Thurs. (remember when kids didn't HAVE schedules....now they're like trying to see a specialist brain surgeon). I want him to dig out the area where I want to put in a concrete pad in front of the garden shed. This is not something I can't do myself, but it is "grunt work" and I have a lot of other stuff to be getting on with and it would be nice to have it done by somebody else while I'm doing the more delicate work of lifting and transplanting.
