Got 3 large loads of nice top soil delivered a few days ago, nice, loose and crumbly! A friend heard that we wanted some more dirt, he said he has about 40-50 yards total he needed to get rid of.
We called another friend with a small tractor who had offered to help whenever we needed it and he came over to move the dirt into the back to fill in the area where we're raising the lawn section. Whatever is left over and the next few loads are mine for raising beds, fill in some areas and make some berms. Pretty excited, free dirt and the labor for the tractor is dinner and wine! Good friends!
This pile in the driveway, 2 truck fulls, is one of three. It's for the bed behind it under the redwoods. There's another double load in front of the garage for the back lawn and another double load by the back fence in the greenbelt.
Here is our friend Tim and his cute little tractor, just working on the load in the back, spreading it around. Once he's done with that pile, he'll start on filling in the lawn area. It will be raised level to the rail ties and then we'll add a small curved bed along the back because I don't like the squared off straight lines plus it's a drop off in the back of the lawn so it will get a border of smallish shrubs and perennials.
He's carefully maneuvering past my newly planted Aloha Hawaii rose to his right, I placed a large rock on one side of it and a large pot in front of it to hold the long canes up until Brad can build me a trellis for it.
It's slowly coming along, it will be great to finally get the rest of these pots planted, still looks too much like a nursery even after 7 months since moving in.
This is a picture I took back in May about 5 weeks after we moved in, we had just removed several large and overgrown shrubs.
