Sharon's blog: Soakin' the sun right outta the sky

"Look at them trees, just soakin' the sun right outta the sky and bouncing it 'round all over the mountains!"

She said it every single sunshiny fall day. Ninna loved fall in the mountains.  So did I.

Early morning yesterday it was the hush that woke me. I knew before I opened my eyes that it would be foggy and sure enough, fog was so heavy I couldn't see my toes. And quiet, so quiet and still, it was like looking into a photograph instead of the real thing.  It was pretty though, a warmish early morning fog. Not nearly as pretty as fog in the mountains, but sometimes we just have to make do with what we have.

I'm not in the mountains anymore but today is truly one of Ninna's soakin' the sun right outta the sky days.  The maples finally decided to toss away the green and almost overnight changed into glowing gold.  Seems like I've been waiting weeks for this day.

Today there is no fog, the birds are chirping, the leaves are rustling and the trees just soaked that sun right outta the sky. So did the roses. And turned it right around and bounced the glow all over my day.

But would you just look closely at the little Japanese maple in my soon to be Blue Moon Garden, the last photo above the roses. One of its little trunks, the one that's tallest on the left, is undergoing a strange transformation. It has none of the delicate, lacy, orangey leaves of the tiny tree I planted a few years ago, its leaves are deep red and larger than those on the other branches.  It's just the one little side branch; the rest of it, the lower branches, are the same as they have always been.  Seems to me it's reverting, going back to its roots.  Seems to me going back to our roots might not be a bad idea.

Seems to me glowing days like this one are treasures to enjoy when they happen.  Anytime, anywhere.
