The Green Pages: 5th Season Store (Local Garden Centers)

This company specializes to the home brewer, hydroponic, and organic grower clientele. They have a great selection of products I find very useful: coarse perlite, coir, coconut husk, hydroton (little fired clay balls sometimes used in lieu of pumice rock for orchids and other plants), greensand, rock phosphate, composted chicken manure (50# bag for $8), and several varieties of fertilizer, mycorrhizae, and rooting hormone to name a few. They also have hand tools, misters, fans, lights...

The prices are very reasonable. The staff is very knowledgeable. Their web page is well organized. The couple of specialty items I asked about that they do not carry they are able to get quickly.

We all seem to be able to find where plants are sold but are at the mercy of big box stores for soil amendments and other specialty items. Perhaps there are similar stores throughout the country that cater to similar niche markets. This one is close so it's nice to wander (it's a very small place but there are so many interesting items!), and it's always great having vendors who know their products.
