10 Best Gardening Gifts - Christmas Ideas for Gardeners

By Jon Whitinger

Do you have a friend or loved one whose passion is gardening? Our budget friendly list is sure to please anyone who loves to get their hands dirty (or even if they love to garden without getting their hands dirty!) We've got you covered with unique ideas for all the gardeners on your list!

This nifty gardening set is one of the best we've seen for new gardeners. The tools are a great quality for their price and they are all useful. The handy tote will hold other tools as you acquire them as well as your produce, cut flowers, or water bottle as you meander around the garden. This is a great buy.

Whether you are ready to upgrade your basic set or are looking to start with the best, these heavy duty stainless steel handtools will last you for years.

We just love this little garden cart! You can pull it behind you, store your tools and goodies in the storage area, sit on the padded seat, or remove the seat and kneel on the cushion when you need to be close to the ground. The little caddy is large enough to hold your basics and there is even a cup holder.

Weeding is called a chore for a reason, but the CobraHead Weeder makes things easier. This little tool is one of our absolute favorites!

There is also a CobraMini for smaller areas!

Felco pruners- built to last. Tools get worked hard here at NGA headquarters. Felcos are our hand-down favorite hand pruners. We have Felco hand pruners that are 18 years old, and although we've never had to discard a pair, we do have to replace them when they wander off. The red handle gets two (green) thumbs way up from us- they aren't lost nearly as easily!!

This tray for wheelbarrows is perhaps the most nifty gardening gadget I've seen in quite a few years. The number of times we've tried to juggle handtools, a shovel, water, and potted plants while wheeling around a wheelbarrow is innumerable. Getting whacked in the head with the rake, newly potted seedlings falling over, and stuff falling over the sides. Not to mention arriving at your destination and digging around in the corners to try to find your handtools that have buried themselves somewhere. Finally, a solution. This tray fits 4, 5, 6, and 7 cubic-foot wheelbarrows and holds every tool you'll need for a day of playing in the soil.

I used to bring a plastic tote or a bucket around with me to do my weeding. No more! Those bulky items have been replaced with these lightweight containers. Perfect to throw the weeds into for transport to the compost bin! Watch out for thorns, though- best to stick with something more rigid when it's time to prune the roses.

Tired of dumping your wheelbarrow? Consider a gardening cart. While we have several types, the thing I like about this one is that it is a wonderful rigid plastic. Left in the rain, filled with rocks or gravel, rode in, and even used as a ramp- this cart is up for the task of household use and abuse. It is very easy to maneuver around in the pathways of your garden and has an extremely handy dump mechanism. Pull the lever, and your mulch comes right out- no shoveling out!

The ultimate slip-on-and-go shoe. These are waterproof, mud-proof, sized to fit your feet, stylish (solid colors and fun patterns), and comfortable enough for all day wear. The traction is perfect and I love that they are made in the USA. These are a must have for anyone who keeps shoes by the door for running out to the garden, or just to run out to the mailbox.

It's time to stop fighting with your garden hose. Technology has come a long way, and hoses are reaping the benefits of new materials. Hoses are now lightweight and durable, making the job of watering those hanging baskets on your porch much more pleasant.
