Plant Date(s) Report
Spear Leaf Swamp Mallow (Pavonia hastata) On May 16, 2021 Maintenance performed
Started collecting ripe seeds.
Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas 'Stokes Purple') On October 11, 2017 Plant emerged
One of the three has started making shoots. The timing is bad as I'll have to baby these indoors through the winter months, but it's a start. Will get fresh sweet potatoes at a more appropriate time and try again.
Forked Blue Curls (Trichostema dichotomum) On September 5, 2017 Bloomed
Taller than expected:
Since I moved all my plants from my old garden in a big hurry plants are in a pot ghetto situation. As each plant blooms I tag them then I decide where to plant them in the new garden. The Forked Bluecurls had me fooled as they have grown about 3 feet tall in the new place. It was not until the first bloom appears that I fully realized which plant they were. I expected them to grow no taller than 2 feet but I was wrong.
Peruvian Lily (Eucrosia bicolor) On July 21, 2017 Obtained plant
Received bulbs from Nlb59
Spear Leaf Swamp Mallow (Pavonia hastata) On June 9, 2017 Bloomed
Bloomed!!
Also, the plant self-seeded and I now have one new plant.
Chipilin (Crotalaria longirostrata) On January 9, 2017 Miscellaneous Event
Watching the Chipilin/Crotalaria longirostrata in my neighbor's garden. We had a low temperature of 29 degrees and the unprotected plants were killed to the ground. The growing season in this area usually does not allow enough days for the plants to produce seed.
Tung-Oil Tree (Vernicia fordii) On April 1, 2016 Bloomed
After the first flush of flowers I noticed there is fruit forming!
Wavyleaf Basket Grass (Oplismenus hirtellus subsp. undulatifolius) On October 7, 2015 Miscellaneous Event
This is a cute little ground cover and today I finally discovered the name.
Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginiana) On October 3, 2015 Obtained plant
Obtained plant at local swap.
Swamp Sunflower (Helianthus angustifolius) On September 25, 2015 Obtained plant

Forked Blue Curls (Trichostema dichotomum) On September 23, 2015 Bloomed
Plant is blooming now. The potted plant requires extra water.
Papalo (Porophyllum ruderale var. macrocephalum) On September 22, 2015 Bloomed
Plants are blooming now; either deadhead to prevent unwanted volunteers or harvest when seeds are mature.
Naked Lady (Lycoris radiata) On September 21, 2015 Bloomed
Blooming this week.
Creeping Cucumber (Melothria pendula) On September 21, 2015 Miscellaneous Event
The fruit is ready to eat now. There are a lot more flowers so more fruit in the next couple of weeks.

Showy Lady's Slipper Orchid (Cypripedium reginae) On April 4, 2015 Obtained plant
Obtained plants from local swap.
Common Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis) On November 19, 2014 Obtained plant

Musk Okra (Abelmoschus moschatus 'Oriental Red') On June 10, 2014 Bloomed
Due to the extreme winter this plant started slowly this spring and has not attained the height of previous years.
Tung-Oil Tree (Vernicia fordii) On May 1, 2014 Potted up
Had this growing in a pot; forgot about it; it grew roots through the pot. I carefully cut away the pot and built a planter box to accommodate the plant in its chosen location.
