[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Cutting Loose') | Posted on August 21, 2015 ]

'Cutting Loose' is not only a gorgeous bloom, with many different looks during its bloom season, but outperforms in my New England garden. Not only does it have a long bloom season, 6 weeks, but it also reblooms into September. It also is a great plant to use in hybridizing. Depending upon what it is crossed with, and it is fertile both ways, the sdlgs. from Cutting Loose so far have been quite lovely and all very different. 'Cutting Loose' is one of those outstanding plants that I am very happy to have in my Vermont garden.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Chang Dynasty') | Posted on July 29, 2015 ]

For form, structure, and color, this is the perfect daylily. 'Chang Dynasty' will look as fresh at 6pm in the evening as it does at 8 AM. Year after year, its blooms glow in the garden, radiating those peach, coral, and yellow tones. Classic and elegant in form and structure, 'Chang Dynasty' is a beauty to behold. One of my favs!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Florence Denny') | Posted on July 29, 2015 ]

Daylily 'Florence Denny' is a monster of a plant. The 8 1/2 inch flower, with deeply ruffled edge, never hangs or droops with the weight of the flower. Florence always stands tall in my garden. This year she has outdone herself with 21 buds. This flower apparently is easy to hybridize. Fertile both ways. Because the flower is a neutral cream color, and if you are looking to promote a larger bloom size, this may be the plant to try. I will set pollen on it this summer. Always beautiful, and I believe underappreciated, 'Florence Denny' is an outstanding daylily.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Dovealicious') | Posted on August 9, 2014 ]

According to the hybridizer's webpage, the parentage of 'Dovealicious' introduced by Nicole Harry DeVito/Gaskins in the Spring of 2009 should read 'Dove in Flight' X Unknown.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Ruby Lipstick') | Posted on July 30, 2014 ]

'Ruby Lipstick' (a John Benz daylily), was added to my garden in May, 2014. I won it from Abundant Daylilies, a favorite hybridizer of mine earlier in the year. When it arrived it was a very small 3 fans. I remember thinking at that time, "No way this plant will bloom this year." In fact, I was worried that the plant might not make it through our very cold winter. I planted it very carefully and fed it with alfalfa meal and a fish nutrient tea. In six weeks, this plant has tripled in size, and sent up 2 scapes. I am just thrilled with this increase, and even more so as I will get to see it bloom in a few weeks.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Emerald Dream') | Posted on July 30, 2014 ]

On 'Emerald Dream,' I have posted a picture of a great example of what "rebloom scapes" should look like. In this pix, you see 4 new scapes in the middle of the foliage. Emerald Dream was the first plant to bloom in my Vermont (Zone 4b) garden. Its first bloom was in the middle of June, 2014. Six weeks later, it is still blooming, while sending up rebloom scapes as well. Emerald Dream is a "dream" plant in my garden.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Different Direction') | Posted on July 22, 2014 ]

'Different Direction' is one of the biggest surprises in my garden. Planted last year but didn't bloom until 2 days ago. And today the 2nd blooms opened up. WOWZA!! This is what I call a knockout plant. You cannot miss it in the garden. The bloom measured over 8'' today. It's simply huge, and the colors of brilliant orange and yellow are outstanding. Pete Harry introduced this beauty 2 yrs ago, and I am so ecstatic I won it on the LA. Great plant in every respect.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Nicole's Elephant Ear') | Posted on July 21, 2014 ]

Took 2 yrs. for 'Nicole's Elephant Ear' to bloom here in VT. This year it really outdid itself, putting up 5 scapes with an amazing amount of buds. The scapes are 3/4 inches around. The blooms are huge, 8" in size. Extremely hearty plant. If you like big blooms, ruffles, and pink flowers, this plant should make you very happy. Love it!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Buddy's Victoria Jade') | Posted on July 21, 2014 ]

This toothy plant is an abundant increaser even here in Vermont. The plant came with 2 fans last year, and this year has increased to 5 fans with excellent branching, beautiful deep purple blooms, and white teeth lining the edge.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Dragonfly Dawn') | Posted on July 20, 2014 ]

One of the most unique daylilies I grow. Great for hybridizing. Like a chameleon, it will give the hybridizer many different looks with whatever you cross it with. Parent to 'Waves of Joy.' A somewhat tender evergreen, it survived the arctic temps in Vermont this past winter planted on a hillside in the mountains, and it gave me 2 new fans this spring. Absolutely love it! Lovey dubby

Purple flower with a deeper purple halo surrounding a bright green throat. A white toothy edge surrounds the purple bloom.
