[ Lachenalia (Lachenalia splendida) | Posted on June 5, 2017 ]

I had three types, different colors, of Lachenalia in a pot. We had a wet winter and only one kind, Lachenalia splendida, survived. I repotted it and some other Lachenalia I have this spring. They've gone dormant now. These are wonderful carefree plants, but beware: Gophers like them for breakfast, and they don't take to being really wet all winter.

[ Honeywort (Cerinthe major 'Rhubarb and Custard') | Posted on October 11, 2016 ]

Received these seeds from the U.K. this summer, so I went ahead and grew a few. They came up great and are sturdier, not as leggy as my Cerinthe major purpurescens. I'm hoping I get a few seeds, although I did start them late. I'm also trying "Yellow Gem," although the flowers came in pink, not yellow at all.

[ Pink Flowered Tweedia (Oxypetalum solanoides) | Posted on August 15, 2016 ]

First year plant from "old" seeds that were given to me. I'm very excited and hoping for lots of seeds.

[ Silver Squill (Ledebouria socialis) | Posted on May 15, 2016 ]

I grow these outdoors under trees year-round in zone 9a California. I state California because it's on the dry side here, and although these like to be watered, they don't like wet feet. I used to bring a pot in for winter in case of a freeze, but they get so leggy overwintering inside. I find these will take a light freeze just fine if they are protected under a tree or overhang. A wonderful little plant that multiplies with gusto.

[ Mignonette (Reseda odorata 'Machet') | Posted on April 11, 2016 ]

I grew Mignonette last year as I read it was fragrant. And, oh my, what a lovely scent it has. I grew it from seed, in a hanging basket so I could get it at nose height. It bloomed the first year, so it could be grown as an annual, but the plant survived the winter here in zone 9a. The plant itself isn't showy, kind of weedy looking like Alyssum with fewer flowers. But the scent, like an expensive perfume, makes this little weed worth growing.
