[ Screw Pine (Pandanus tectorius) | Posted on August 22, 2014 ]

Pandanus are dying in southern Queensland and northern New South Wales, Australia. It is all because of a small inoffensive leafhopper that is out of control away from its biological control, which is a small inoffensive wasp. For information on the situation, follow as someone tries to save a palm raised from seed in a home garden.

Highly invasive in Australia; a declared pest in Western Australia. It is a good example of thigmonasty or seismonasty.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Cleda Jones') | Posted on March 28, 2014 ]

I like my Cleda Jones clumps because they have given me two polys so far this season. You can always tell they are coming because the buds are big and plump.

This is an imposing bloom. From across a garden, it just glows. An oldie but by far a better daylily than most modern cultivars.

MEA is a flower mill. One of my favourite daylilies by far. It is hard not to like a daylily that has a flowering season of six months.

This is an excellent daylily. The bloom always looks as if there is a small light bulb in there somewhere that might be responsible for the warm yellow around the centre of the bloom. This season 2013-4, it is into its sixth month of flowering.

Easy to grow and self seeding. Keep under control by cutting off the flower bracts which are quite spiny. Perennial and much more convenient than cilantro or coriander.
