This plant is thriving in the hot, humid climate of eastern Tennessee. It's just starting to bloom in mid-July, and greenery is full and lush at a time when other garden plants are getting tired and spindly.

I started these from seed. This plant did not like the wet clay soils in my eastern Tennessee gardens. It did very well, however, in window box plantings. Seems to prefer good drainage.

I purchased one of these at a big box store and the tag said it is one of the cold hardy camellia varieties developed by Ackerman.

I've found these growing wild on my wooded hillside in eastern Tennessee. They grow in the shade of large deciduous trees and often grow alongside moss.
