[ Rose (Rosa 'Burst of Joy') | Posted on December 10, 2022 ]

Burst of Joy has many continuous consistent orange blooms that last for several days. Fairly heat tolerant. Not fussy. Haven't tried as a cut flower. Didn't need to cut back foliage to keep it flowering. Just dead headed mainly. The form of the flower is fairly sturdy but if it rains hard enough their size is large enough to hold water so I just shake them off and they are upright again. Exhibited some black spot in the final month of the season. Japanese beetles were mildly attracted to the leaves mainly and somewhat to the blooms. Buggers!

The vibrant peach color stands out. It is so beautiful - like a sunset in the form of a rose. Many continuous blooms that lasted 2-3 days for me. Not a cut flower for sure. Somewhat fragrant. Japanese beetles once in a while. No disease until into fall when it dropped all of its leaves, and then grew back with plenty of leaves with more blooms. It seemed to tolerate the heat fairly well also. Tough. Great color! Due to the drought the nursery was clearing 'tender roses' so I picked up a dozen or so various roses for $10 each. Had to get 2 of Livin Easy.

I love this flower. The yellow color is bright and the plant is constantly in bloom. Heat sensitive 90+. Full sun. Water daily. We were experiencing pretty severe drought in 2022 with heat. I am in zone 4a. Attempting to overwinter with 8" of dirt and 12" of mulched leaves to cover. I see it is listed in various sites as zone 5/6. I generally have success with zone 5 roses so we will see what happens.

Purchased from Swenson Gardens in Watertown, MN fall of 2021. Planted in part sun under white pines. Soil was rich pine compost that is very well drained. Came up strong and produced 1 big flower. Swenson roots are very healthy. Hoping it keeps going strong. Swenson posted that it could be finicky (drainage?) but no problems as of yet. Bloom lasted for about 10 days. Even in the terrible early 90+ degree heat of 2022. Impressed so far. Color is vibrant.

[ Rose (Rosa 'Oscar Peterson') | Posted on December 3, 2022 ]

Oscar Peterson blooms freely June until freeze. Bumble bees like this one - and Japanese beetles love the blooms. There are enough blooms for everyone to enjoy though. Disease is not a problem. Very reliable and steady, no fuss rose. Heat doesn't seem to stop it. Cute, white damsel blooms flower best on new year's growth. Don't be afraid to prune it back. Minnesota zone 4b no protection needed.

One of my most carefree and hardy roses. Clusters of red roses that are nearly in constant repeat. Long lasting. Not fragrant. Japanese beetles rarely bother. Heat tolerant. Fairly vigorous. Not fussy. No disease or infestations in 2 years. 4 hours of sun. Minnesota zone 4b.

[ English Shrub Rose (Rosa 'Munstead Wood') | Posted on December 3, 2022 ]

One of my top 5. Gorgeous maroon/purple velvet flowers. Wonderful, strong, fruity fragrance. Japanese beetles really go for this plant (mainly blooms but some leaves). I pick them off several times a day. Surprisingly vigorous for zone 4b. David Austin has it at zone 5. Planted in about 5 hours of sun. Nearly constant repeat. Not a good cut flower for me. Wilts by the end of the day. Dried roses very fragrant though. Does well here in Minnesota. I cover it with 2 shovels of dirt and a foot of mulched leaves for the winter.

[ Rose (Rosa 'Princess Alexandra of Kent') | Posted on December 3, 2022 ]

One of my top 5. Many pretty pink blooms of great form in June through freeze. I'm in Minnesota so not much blooms before the end of May. Second year from D.A. bareroot is vigorous in 5 hours sun. Takes about 2 weeks to form new blooms if cut, or eaten by deer. Lasts 2-3 days when cut. Moderate fragrance. Wilts in the 90+ heat. No disease or infestations in last 2 years. Japanese beetles mildly attracted to this one. I noticed the information lists hardiness as zone 5b. David Austin has it as zone 4. Thrives well in zone 4a.

[ Rose (Rosa 'Legends') | Posted on December 3, 2022 ]

Huge, beautiful, absolute red blooms that are long lasting (1week or more). Did not see any disease or bugs. Japanese beetles were not very interested. Great cut flower. Fragrant. Moderately thirsty. Takes the heat better than most. One of my top 5. Zone 6 but I am trying to winter over in zone 4b after burying deeply and mulching with a foot of chopped leaves.
