[ Texas Bullnettle (Cnidoscolus texanus) | Posted on June 8, 2021 ]

I spotted just one specimen of this plant on our 42 acre rural property in Central TX. I find them pretty, but so glad I didn't get up close or touch it. They're apparently worse than stinging nettles if you touch one.

The new blooms on my specimens come up all pink and then the yellow bits peek out as they mature.

I understand Texans call this one "RaRu" for short. That sounds like a football game cheer, but believe me it is not something to cheer about, no matter how pretty it may be in a field like this. Not only do your legs get tangled up in it walking through, but it competes with natives. Wildflowers are not yet choked out from it. We will have to tackle with herbicides this spring, I suppose. Will have to hire it applied since it's on 40 acres. But many wildflower species still abound on the place, so there is still hope all will be well again one day. Smiling

[ Scotch Broom (Cytisus scoparius 'Moonlight') | Posted on August 17, 2019 ]

These plants do NOT like "wet feet". I lost one in 3 months due to heavy rains the year it was Spring planted in moderately clay-ridden soil. The area drains quickly, but not quickly enough to save my 2' tall yellow Scotch Broom. Pick an area with no possible drainage issues.
