[ Variegated Garden Phlox (Phlox paniculata 'Nora Leigh') | Posted on April 8, 2018 ]

Re name change proposal denied for the NGA Plants Database.
The name of this excellent cultivar is spelled variously as 'Nora Leigh' and 'Norah Leigh'.
The cultivar is listed as 'Norah Leigh' (viz Nora with an "h") in the Royal Horticultural Society Horticultural Database.

The cultivar was named by the British horticulturalist, Alan Bloom, as "Norah Leigh', after he had discovered the plant in the garden of Norah Leigh, at Broadwell Manor, Gloucestershire, England.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Sans Souci') | Posted on December 2, 2017 ]

The Iris that Lost its Name.

[ Blue Lungwort (Pulmonaria angustifolia) | Posted on November 26, 2017 ]

Horticultural Pulmonaria angustifolia is apparently not the same plant as Pulmonaria angustifolia Linnaeus. In addition, there is apparently confusion between the plant called P. angustifolia in horticulture and its cultivars.

Or are all 'Sans Souci' ?

[ Dahurian Gentian (Gentiana dahurica 'Nikita') | Posted on April 30, 2013 ]

Long-lived.

[ Alpine Columbine (Aquilegia alpina) | Posted on April 28, 2013 ]

A very pretty blue.
Seeds around a bit.

[ Species X Iris (Iris 'Gogo Boy') | Posted on April 25, 2013 ]

This is a hybrid between Iris versicolor and I. ensata.
I have one plant, which is proving to be longer lived in my garden than I. ensata.

[ Bitter-Root (Lewisia 'Little Plum') | Posted on April 25, 2013 ]

A pretty little alpine/rock garden plant for which some say average border conditions are lethal.

I've had them growing for numbers of years in two perennial borders, locating them close to the edge of a brick path (good drainage).

[ Catchfly (Viscaria vulgaris 'Splendens Plena') | Posted on April 25, 2013 ]

Has a nice bright magenta pink flower.

[ Primrose (Primula 'April Rose') | Posted on April 25, 2013 ]

Many deep ruby red, but small, flowers.
Hardy here.

[ Aubrieta 'Whitewell Gem' | Posted on April 25, 2013 ]

A beautiful violet blue colour.
Long lived.

[ Variegated Garden Phlox (Phlox paniculata 'Nora Leigh') | Posted on April 21, 2013 ]

I'd say that the flowers of this cultivar are quite attractive, but the foliage is quite exceptional.
The variegated foliage complements those perennials, including other phlox cultivars, which are around it.
It makes a great contribution to mixed perennial beds.

[ Cheddar Pink (Dianthus gratianopolitanus 'Bath's Pink') | Posted on April 21, 2013 ]

This plant spreads, but not in a chaotic way.
It's very easy to keep it in check by yearly removing outer bits with a spade.

[ Siberian Bugloss (Brunnera macrophylla 'Dawson's White') | Posted on April 21, 2013 ]

Adds a lot to perennial beds.

[ Longleaf Lungwort (Pulmonaria 'Diana Clare') | Posted on April 21, 2013 ]

Finding this to be quite a vigorous cultivar.

[ Blue Lungwort (Pulmonaria angustifolia) | Posted on April 21, 2013 ]

Attractive blue flower.
Nice green leaves.

[ Virginia Bluebells (Mertensia virginica) | Posted on April 21, 2013 ]

Very reliable.

[ Gentian (Gentiana 'True Blue') | Posted on April 20, 2013 ]

Hardy here like other gentians.

[ Monkshood (Aconitum 'Spark's Variety') | Posted on April 20, 2013 ]

The loveliest blue I've seen in a monkshood (amethyst blue).

However, it is very lanky and tall and needs staking.
The latter is difficult here, since it grows to six feet (or more) in height in our garden.
