[ Self-heal (Prunella vulgaris) | Posted on July 5, 2016 ]

It's effective as ground cover, and tolerates foot traffic. Growth that's walked on will not bloom.

[ Variegated Impatiens (Impatiens walleriana 'Variegata') | Posted on June 10, 2016 ]

Ordered from White Flower Farms, these have been fantastic each year. They grow remarkably large and flower all season long. Highly recommended.

[ Japanese Camellia (Camellia japonica 'Goggy') | Posted on April 28, 2016 ]

I've been trying to get this camellia going for three years. My patience is about up with it. It looks promising for a while, with several buds in late winter, but the buds fall off before they come to flower. It's in a rather sheltered part-sun spot, with decently fertile soil, and yet it remains as nothing but a sad looking plant. My suggestion is to go with a better known cultivar.

[ Tall Clumping Bamboo (Fargesia 'Jiuzhaigou Genf') | Posted on March 10, 2016 ]

I got mine three years ago. As I recall it was in a 3 gallon pot. It's healthy enough but hardly vigorous. Unlike any other bamboo I've had, this is terribly slow growing. I'm likely to try transplanting it and seeking out something more substantial.

[ Crepe Myrtle (Lagerstroemia 'Purple Magic') | Posted on February 10, 2016 ]

Here in zone 7, my 'Purple Magic' doesn't begin to leaf out until late June or early July. It does bloom late into growing season, but the bare spring branches don't make for the best look.
