[ Miniature Pine Tree (Crassula tetragona) | Posted on October 30, 2018 ]

I obtained this plant early this summer and placed it in a large pot with other succulents. It has done very well. It has been through a few frosts with temps down to 25° with no damage.

[ Sweet Four o'Clock (Mirabilis longiflora) | Posted on August 30, 2014 ]

The flowers open late evening and stay open all night, closing in the early morning. Fragrance is sweet, almost like sugar cookies.

[ Hollyhock (Alcea rosea) | Posted on August 23, 2014 ]

I have found that this can get a bit weedy (as in lots of seedings) but they are easily pulled if gotten to early. Heavy clay soil doesn't seem to bother it. Grown in full sun. The leaves get a bit ragged looking near the end of the season but that is due to mostly butterfly larva. Other insects include Hollyhock weevil.

[ Anise Hyssop (Agastache 'Heatwave') | Posted on August 23, 2014 ]

Hummingbirds and butterflies are drawn to this. The pink color blends well with a variety of other plants. We have heavy clay soil and it appears to have no problem with it.

[ Cutleaf Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum 'Viridis') | Posted on August 23, 2014 ]

I have had this tree in a large pot for 15+ years and it does well. It is susceptible to sunburn in our hot Utah sun so is kept in mostly shade. I have trimmed it several times with no problems.

[ Peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Santa Fe') | Posted on May 22, 2013 ]

One bloom last year, its first. This year it has 7.

[ Blue Flax (Linum perenne) | Posted on May 14, 2013 ]

My clump gets bigger every year.

[ European Columbine (Aquilegia vulgaris 'Winky Double Red and White') | Posted on May 14, 2013 ]

Reseeds for me and seems to come true.

[ Purple Hyacinth Bean (Lablab purpureus) | Posted on May 2, 2013 ]

These took about 10 days to appear.

[ Eastern Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius 'Center Glow') | Posted on October 24, 2012 ]

This plant gives 4-season beauty for me.

[ Rose (Rosa 'Barby Kordana') | Posted on August 16, 2012 ]

I love this rose. It's covered in blooms throughout the season.

[ Hyssop (Agastache 'Summer Sunset') | Posted on August 16, 2012 ]

Hummingbirds are drawn to it and stay a long time. It glows in the garden.

[ Yarrow (Achillea millefolium 'Paprika') | Posted on August 16, 2012 ]

Very hardy plant. I missed watering it through 90º+ weather and it bounced back with no problems and even rebloomed.

[ Coneflower (Echinacea 'Tomato Soup') | Posted on July 29, 2012 ]

I wasn't impressed with this plant. It died 2 years after planting.

[ Morning Glory (Ipomoea tricolor 'Heavenly Blue') | Posted on July 29, 2012 ]

While the leaves are okay, I could never see the flowers. They hid inside the foliage.

[ Tradescantia (Andersoniana Group) (Tradescantia 'Sunshine Charm') | Posted on July 28, 2012 ]

The foliage on this plant did not hold its color. I don't know if it was my soil or the plant.

[ Tall Morning Glory (Ipomoea purpurea 'Milky Way') | Posted on July 27, 2012 ]

They don't call this Tall Morning Glory for nothing. This one grew 12' and would have grown more if I had not cut it back. A beautiful flower but invasive.

[ Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus 'Blushing Bride') | Posted on July 17, 2012 ]

I planted this in too much shade but it still performs beautifully. I love the soft pink flowers,

[ Fish Tail Hoya (Hoya polyneura) | Posted on July 12, 2012 ]

This plant has been outside in the shade of the house through 100º+ temps. It gets morning sun, then shade, then late afternoon sun. It's thriving.

[ Alder Buckthorn (Frangula alnus) | Posted on June 22, 2012 ]

I really like this but the seedlings are invasive. Each year, I pull hundreds of them. I've had some trouble with sub-surface roots making it difficult to plant under and around my hedge. However, it can be done and I have had no problem with digging out some of the roots to get other plants in.

Birds like the fruits. I see Robins, House Finches and the occasional Goldfinch eating them. I just wish they'd eat more.
