[ Hosta (Hosta sieboldiana 'Golden Meadows') | Posted on December 8, 2013 ]

It doesn't always get mentioned that some hostas, such as 'Golden Meadows,' don't keep their colors for the whole season. Another that comes to mind is 'War Paint,' which goes all green sooner than 'Golden Meadows.' Either way, they are both very striking. 'Golden Meadows' in particular has a tremendous contrast of blue green with a bright cream center when fresh in the early spring that is hard to beat, but for those purchasing it for the first time, just be aware that it changes to an all dark bluish green by mid summer.

Pretty vigorous in Indiana and clean foliage. Not skimpy or yellowish.

Great grower with generous bud count here in Indiana.

The photo by diggit is taken of a freshly opened bloom late in the evening on a cloudy day. The color combination is astonishing. Now if we could get Ghio form and fashion on this...........

Color seems to vary with light source and the effects of fading with maturity of the bloom. Much darker upon first opening.

Unfortunately this is just one of those irises we are seeing more and more of that are misrepresented in the catalog or internet photos. The nefarious practice of "juicing" the photos to make them more colorful or even displaying colors that aren't there is disappointing to most of us.

Nice blocky form here in Indiana and good multiplier. The foliage is a little pale like many of the yellows.

Does not seem to have the yellowish tint here in Indiana in my garden at least. Soil, maybe? Introduced by Rockytop Gardens.

Seriously hard to capture the awesome color of this iris. I am not sure whether the old film cameras could do better on some of these tougher colors. This one grows well here in Indiana.

Grows like a weed in Indiana. Somehow it is really hard to capture the "presence" of this bloom on camera. It is so much more in real life viewing.

Vigorous grower in Indiana. A trait not mentioned often enough among iris growers. There's nothing wrong with telling it like it is on a given cultivar. I hate to purchase a plant and wait four or five years to get an increase or a bloom.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Doctor Who') | Posted on May 17, 2013 ]

Grows really well and multiplies well in Indiana.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Beula') | Posted on May 15, 2013 ]

Was reported to rebloom in California.
Note that the pinker of the images is scanned from 35mm film while the whiter sharper image is digital and is more true to the actual appearance of the bloom. I am finding this to be common not only from digital format compared to film format but even from camera to camera............ and film brand differences as well on the old slides and negatives.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Icy Winds') | Posted on May 15, 2013 ]

One grower in New England commented that it was one of the few that stood up under the strong winds that are prevalent there.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'I Must Have It') | Posted on May 14, 2013 ]

Unusual color. Hard to capture on camera.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Primal Shadows') | Posted on May 14, 2013 ]

The pink shading in the base of the standards is more prominent than this pic shows. Grows very well and multiplies here in Indiana and that most likely comes from the 'Peace and Harmony' genes since 'Spring Tidings' is much less vigorous here.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Hold My Hand') | Posted on May 12, 2013 ]

I note that my photo is of slightly different hues than others posted. It is my recollection that this pic from last year represents a pretty true coloration. Perhaps difference in digital camera settings. At any rate a robust grower here.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Open Your Heart') | Posted on May 12, 2013 ]

First to bloom this year of hundreds of varieties. Second-year plant, but seems to be a good grower.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Leanna') | Posted on May 10, 2013 ]

Grows well in Indiana, but a bit shorter than listed on a first year plant. Expect height and form to improve on this year's bloom.

The falls overlap, which is a desirable trait to me personally. Also, the area around the beard brightens to almost silver on the second day.
